How I Got Here | Millie

I recieved an email from my first music teacher today and it brought tears to my eyes. There isn't really an occasion when her name in my inbox doesn't warm my heart and send me spiraling down the storyline of how I got here. It could be argued that 'that path' or 'my path' was a road I was born to travel, or cosmicly I would have ended up here regardless but I don't think so....

No, I'm here because of her.

I'm here because she loved me, because she saw something in me, becuase she nurtured me and my musical heart. I'm here becuase I was inspired by her weekly, becuase I was accountable to someone, because I could be honest with her. I'm here becuase I trusted her, because she accepted me and because,, she lit a spark in me and gave me faith that I could go however far I wanted.

Here I am.

There is an immense weight of gratitude that I'm feeling right now. My heart is heavy just thinking about how over 5 years I grew up in her living room. I played with her cats and magestic dog Mokey who slept under the baby grand. She really knew me, probably before I totally knew myself.

I'll never forget the recitals we would do. She had so many students at one point the recital was over 2 nights. I remember I sang and played the piano and I was only in grade 8. I was really nervous to sing infront of everyone and she was the one who taught me how to sing and play. To think that now a primary goal of my studio is to orchestrate a recital for my students... that's really special.

I'll always remember how open she was; she let me pull angel cards and try on hats and she knitted or crocheted things for my mum. She really believed in me and every time I teach I hope I can pour as much love into my students as she poured into me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Millie,

You have given me so much more than you could ever know and I am forever grateful. You are always in my thoughts and prayers, in my B.Mus degree and in every lesson I teach.

Love Always xoxo.
